Pippa 9 (alias) was at the beginning of Year 9 and had been absent from mainstream education for a while. She was unwilling to engage in academic work and had difficulties socialising.
One of the things we did to increase her engagement was to use her interest with Harry Styles. We planned and built a modal auditorium complete with lighting, movable characters and sound. We then choreographed and performed one of Harry Styles songs, as well as producing things like interview scripts and flyers. This was all very beneficial in showing how learning can be fun as well as educational – a picture is attached.
In a year Pippa has gone from not even appearing in picture on zoom lessons to having tutorials with teachers from Oak Activities, covering all subjects, and has now started working towards her GCSE’s.
