Rose (alias) came to Oak Activities at the beginning of Year 11. She was very behind in her GCSE’s, couldn’t go in to school, and had low esteem. Rose doubted she could pass or even sit her exams.
Our team of tutors built up her self-confidence and found a tailored way to educate Rose, using materials and methods developed to accommodate her love of board games and science fiction. In Business Studies we developed the economy of Planet YODA, and rescued casualties from the front line in Medical History. We played revision games using a Hogwarts home-made scenario and taught Literature on a spaceship.
The result has been that Rose was re-climatized into her school, sat her exams, and is expected to do well rather than just passing. She is planning to attend the Sixth Form to study ‘A’ Levels in History, English Literature and Film Studies.
