We have a number of experienced and qualified members of teaching staff that can offer 1:1 tutoring in the home or on school site.
The team can teach KS4 core subjects along with many of the optional subjects.
Freddie, year 11, was referred to Oak following a debilitating illness that severely affected his mental health and academic confidence. He hadn’t attended school or had any education for 16 months.
Freddie did virtually no exercise and barely left the house. His mental health was at an all time low.
Parents and the school were increasingly concerned for Freddie’s upcoming GCSE exams.
Our team began working with Freddie and his family to support the mental and physical recovery from his illness and get him ready to learn.
Once Freddie found his confidence again, quality 1:1 tuition could begin.
Freddie was still deemed unfit for school, so we worked with him at home. His two tutors covered the whole curriculum from scratch in the following subjects; English Literature and Language, Maths, Photography, Combined Science and ICT. Oak even employed a specific Computer Science teacher to tutor Freddie as he was keen to gain more qualifications.
Freddie sat all his exams in school:
Freddie’s GCSE results:
Maths – 5 / English Literature – 4 / English Language 4 / Photography – 5 / Combined Science – 4-3 / ICT D1 & P2 / Computer Science – 5
Freddie has since kindly written to us and left some reflective thoughts on his time working with us.
“My Oak Activity teachers mean so much to me. They were the ones who helped my journey to continue towards my GCSEs. If it wasn’t for them, I don’t know what I would have achieved and I’m positive I wouldn’t have got into sixth form.”
“My biggest success so far is getting out of my home and into school.”
“I love going on walks now, and always schedule to go somewhere with my parents at the weekend.”
“I don’t like to think what might have happened without your support, but I overcame it all with your help and am so much happier now.”
“I have made so much progress in 6 months with my mental health illness.”
